About

Neon lights glow through the science of excited atoms. When electricity passes through a sealed tube of neon gas, electrons jump to higher energy levels. As they return, they release energy as vibrant light, creating dazzling displays in cities worldwide.

Phoenix Quill, cosmic ink, galactic tales and celluloid dreams

This website is my exploration of science fiction and fantasy across page and screen — from 19th-century gothic experiments to modern blockbusters, from prophetic poems to post-apocalyptic epics. Through Celluloid Dreams (film) and Galactic Tales (literature),I trace how science fiction, fantasy, and horror reflect the philosophical and cultural anxieties of their time. These aren’t just reviews; they’re part of a larger roadmap, showing how stories about collapse, control, and survival have evolved — and what they reveal about us today. I then try to apply these themes in a unique way to my own writings in Cosmic Ink.

Celluloid Dreams
Cinema doesn’t just entertain — it shapes how we imagine the future, the past, and ourselves. Celluloid Dreams explores film as cultural prophecy: from dystopian nightmares to surreal allegories, each review traces how movies reflect the hopes and fears of their age. These aren’t just film reviews; they’re dispatches from the dreamworld of cinema, where every frame tells us something about who we are and where we’re headed. Follow along each month as we map out a unique journey for inspiration.

Galactic Tales
Science fiction has always been more than rockets and ray guns — it’s a record of human imagination colliding with philosophy, politics, and the unknown. Galactic Tales follows the arc of the genre, from its 19th-century beginnings through modern dystopias and cosmic epics. Here, I’m less interested in plot summaries and more in how stories mirror the anxieties and aspirations of their time. Each book review is a step on a larger journey: each month tracing how literature mapped out the galaxies of our fears and dreams.

I just finished my last big project for the year. I feel relieved that it is completed, but I am so tired that it is difficult to be satisfied, more of a “the weekend looks really good for once”. The creative ember is still burning, I woke up last night with a poem in my…

Entry 015 Busy busy busy

Work continues to be a grind. I don’t ever recall being this busy in 20 years of teaching. I have to admit teacher burnout is a real thing. And even though it gets a lot of media attention, the demands just keep growing. I started this blog as a way of giving voice to the…

Entry 014 On Time, Money, Space, and Energy

The last two weeks have been crazy busy for me. I honestly can’t remember a recent stretch where I’ve had so little free time—even time to capture my thoughts. I’ve tried to work on that over the years, because if I don’t write ideas down right away, they vanish. And of course, those are always…
